Olga Fuentes Soriano has been a professor of Procedural Law at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche since 2004. She graduated in Law from the University of Alicante in 1992 and received her PhD from the same University in 1997 with a Doctoral Thesis on the foreclosure procedure.
The completion of her doctoral thesis marked one of the lines of research that she has maintained throughout her professional career, especially because the passage of time has proven the problems that were denounced in it right and the solutions that were already pointed out (the impossibility of issuing an inaudita parte to the occupant – feasible in the 1990s -, the unconstitutionality of a procedure that did not give the debtor a hearing – except in insufficiently assessed cases – or, in short, the configuration of a mortgage system that, as a whole, was deeply unfair to the citizen). In addition to various scientific articles, this thesis crystallized in the monograph The process of mortgage execution, Edijus, 1998. In addition to mortgage execution, other lines of research were added in the civil field, such as procedural costs (among which it is worth highlighting his monograph The costs of the new LEC, Tirant lo Blanch, 2005); and, in the criminal field, her research has revolved around certain axes such as the study of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the investigation phase (in this field it is worth highlighting the book La Investigación por el Fiscal en el proceso penal abreviado y en los juicios rápidos. Perspectivas de futuro, Tirant lo Blanch, 2005), gender violence (where, along with numerous articles, the monograph El enjuiciamiento de la Violencia de Género, IUSTEL, 2009, stands out) and the evidentiary problems posed by new technologies (whose theses have been disseminated in various scientific articles and book chapters that can be consulted in the CV provided).
Her scientific publications, including monographs, articles and book chapters, are close to one hundred; and along with this research activity, her participation in national and international congresses, seminars and scientific conferences stands out.
Her dedication to teaching and research has been accompanied by the performance of important positions in the field of university management, including her appointments as Secretary of the Faculty of Law, General Secretary of the University and Vice-Chancellor of Companies and Foundations, all of them at the University of Alicante. She is currently the director of the University Master’s Degree in Law, which is jointly organised by the Miguel Hernández University and the Elche Bar Association.
In the chapter on other relevant merits, it is worth highlighting her work as advisor to the Minister of Justice during the years 2004-2006 and she has also been a substitute Magistrate of the Alicante Provincial Court. Currently, and since 1992, she is a non-practicing member of the Elche Bar Association.
She is the principal investigator of the research project funded by the Generalitat Valenciana, Consellería d’Educació cultura i esports (AICO/20017/161) “The digital era: new problems for Law”. She is the Director of the Legaltech research group.
